Best meal I've had in Chinatown in years. The whole fried fish in black bean sauce was perfect. A lot of really tasty dishes somewhat smothered in peanut sauce. There's a deep fried tofu app with a pocket holding slivers of cucumber. Really interesting and delicious. And a long simmered beef in a spicy peanut sauce. Yum. Came back a second time for lunch and had a very delicious spicy shrimp-based soup with shrimp and noodles. The first few slurps are off-putting but once you get acclimated quite delicious.

This is my go-to spot for Malaysian food whenever I'm in Little Italy or Chinatown. There's plenty of seating, and I didn't have to wait during my Saturday lunch visit. The prices are reasonable, and I really enjoy the appetizers and desserts here. Just remember to bring cash!

Pretty good Malaysian place in SoHo. The place is quite big so can seat plenty. We had the chicken satay, shrimp with mango, and the ABC for dessert. The chicken satay was pretty good with the peanut sauce. The shrimp with mango was good too but not something I would order again. The ABC hit the spot at the end. Service was good though they did mess up our order in the kitchen. Nice place, good food, pretty good value but cash only. They have an ATM by the entrance.

Yes this is cash only but who cares when the food is THAT amazing? It certainly doesn't matter much to me. As a proud Penangite, I absolutely LOVE the asam laksa (which has a sour base broth, not to be mistaken with the curry laksa which is creamy coconut flavored). I almost cried when I ate it the first time cause it tasted so much like home, the waiters let me know that the chef is from Penang like myself and it warmed my heart. I've also tried to their prawn mee and bubur char char - both were authentic and passed my very hard-to-please Penang tastebuds. I will continue to patronize this business and am thankful for this little slice of home.

It's not the most authentic but it tastes good! The chicken in my nasi lemak was moist and everything was flavorful. Would come back again

Nyonya is cash only. You don't need me to tell you because it is written on the door, the hostess will confirm with you, and then it will also be written on the cover of the menu so if you can't figure it out, I don't think anyone can help you. And like most places in NYC that have resisted credit card processing fees deep into the 21st century, Nyonya is where the good food is. The space is nice too and big enough that you don't feel like you're sitting in your neighbor's lap. We were quickly sat and given just enough time to peruse the borderline Cheesecake Factory style menu. We settled on the Roti Canai, Chow Kueh Teow, and a chicken Masak Lemak with a side of coconut rice. The Roti was thin and crispy with a very flavorful chicken curry for dipping. The Chow Kueh Teow had the kind of wok hay that you are looking for, trust me. The Masak Lemak was a saucy, ginger packed delight. The portions are big--between the two of us, there was enough for a solid lunch (for one) or snack (for two) the next day. And it still hit then. Come hungry. Bring cash.

CASH ONLY. Very reasonably priced comfort asian food. My friend and I walked in on a random Saturday at 6:30 and were able to get seated immediately. We ordered the Hainan chicken, Salted fish with eggplant, and chicken satay. All the food was pretty good and hit home, although I wouldn't say there was anything too mind blowing about any of them. The Hainan chicken was pretty classic and simple, and I really liked the dipping sauce on the side. For the salted fish, it is quite literally very salty fish, which I guess I should have expected from the name but was a little saltier than I would have liked. The eggplants were good though. I really enjoyed the chicken satay, the sauce was a little peanuty but not overwhelming. Overall I thought the flavors for everything were pretty good, and $30 a person in new york to cover 3 items is unheard of! Definitely will be coming back when I'm craving asian comfort food.

Came here for dinner on a Monday night with a crew of 6. We opted to go family-style and shared a bunch of dishes. Having lived in Singapore, I definitely miss Singaporean and Malaysian food and was excited to get some of my old favs. However, for the most part the food didn't live up to my hopes. We got: - Hainanese Chicken Rice: honestly just ok. It could have been more tender, juicy, and flavorful. The chili sauce was also watery and they didn't give enough for half a chicken. - Char kway teow: the noodles they used weren't the standard ones (at least that I was used to in Singapore) and it was missing wok hei. - Chinese watercress: solid, but I don't think this dish ever really stands out. - Beef rendang: this was one dish I would go back for. The rendang was flavorful and beef tender. The servers were really nice and the restaurant is very large, which is nice as you shouldn't have to wait for a table. Note: they are cash only.

Nyonya is one of the most popular go to restaurant for Malaysian. Simple, cash-only, unassuming place to get your hainanese chicken, and roti canai fix. The food always delivers each time. Can't go wrong with hainanese chicken (if you're a fan. I'm not), roti canai, and an order of a vegetable dish. Ambience is dark wood furniture. Simple and clean with fast service. 8/10 I do recommend
